The Living Room

I Corinthians 6:19-20
"Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body."

My grandma enjoys entertaining family and friends in the living room of her home. It’s one of the many rooms she takes great pleasure in assuring that it’s always cleaned and ready for company. As you walk in, you are greeted by many collectables and pictures of family members. It’s a space that is delightful to dwell in and celebrate life and love. I remember as a child, seeing her carefully dust each table and the items that occupied them. I imagine now, that her motivation was in the memories that each item held, she handled each of them with great care. She makes sure everything is looking like new and organized. The atmosphere is always sweet. The ceiling fan twirls above in the heart of the room providing the indwellers with comfort. It’s such a loving space.

Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. A temple is an edifice devoted to special or exalted purposes. The purpose of my Grandma’s living room is to entertain her family and friends and similarly, our bodies is a space used to host the Holy Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit is not an occasional guest, but a special guest given by God. He was sent by God to help us and “…. Teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26). Are we being good hosts? Constantly allowing the word of God to purify us? If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness, (1 John 1:9, NIV). He won’t go out and tell anyone what’s out of place, but He will take time to help you get rid of any word, acts, or deeds that don’t bring glory to the Father. The more you make Him feel welcomed, the more He will help you to showcase all the fruit of the spirit, kinda like my grandma shows off her collectables and pictures.

Truly God is able to do this, just look at what this scripture says “The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times, Psalm 12:6). That is powerful, just think about it. I want the presence of God’s spirit within my temple, because the more I learn from Him, the more I want to be like Him.

Look around your temple/living room, is there any dust, smudges, or cobwebs that need to be removed? If so, just put a little WORD (not Windex) on it and it will come off and look new again.

2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"
