1 Samuel 2:3
Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
As we find ourselves sharing God, it is important that we remain watchful of becoming overly confident. We must watch out that we don’t accidentally extend an invitation to pride to enter our temples. Pride is defined as “a feeling of pleasure from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired.” When we open our mouth to speak on behalf of God, we must yield our self, our desires, our agendas, our opinions, and our expectations so that God can work; He simply desires to use us as His mouthpiece and we must be careful that WE don’t come out of our mouth and WE don’t take credit for anything that He does through us, We are just the vessel.
God is spirit and those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. Pride is not truth but it is a spirit. 1 John 2:16 reveals, “For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Pride claims credit where it is not due, it depends on our wrong reactions and responses to lift it up or takeover our temples. The danger, for those who allow pride to dwell within their temple, is that once its lifted up too long (knowingly or unknowingly) it’s only a short while before it falls, it’s only a short while before we fall, the very level in which it can be exalted is limited that’s why we will eventually find that “Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall, (Proverbs 16:18). Pride is of the flesh. The flesh is enmity to God (Romans 8:7). So we must note that pride is not welcomed in our temples. If we allow pride to stay, it will try to manipulate our actions and feed itself so that it becomes a strong ungodly weight in our lives. This would not be good.
To prevent such an occurrence let’s decide together that:
1. Our words, actions, and deeds will be yielded totally and absolutely to the spirit of God.
2. The only weight we will carry in our temples is the glory of God.
a. The Hebrew word for glory is Kabod which means weight.
3. Let’s say it together; Pride has to go, in the name of Jesus! (Open your temples spiritual doors)Let pride out, invite the spirit of God to dwell in that space, and shut the door until the next holy visitation!
Our prayer to guard against such unwelcomed guest can be reflective of Philippians 2:3-11
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interest of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
