When your imagination runs away with you...

My mind is beautifully designed by God.

In some moments, I am very thoughtful and in others, I can think above and beyond what may be required by a moment.  Nevertheless, I embrace it and label the knowledge gained as, useful information: just not for today.

Today, I had the opportunity to talk with a musician who was jamming in the city's center.  I was moved by the beautiful sound of music flowing from his instrument. It brought peace to me in a way that calmed me, profoundly. He played a few pieces of which I was able to identify.  The title and lyrics of one song, prompted thought. The song, Just my imagination, contained the words, it was just my imagination runnin' away with me.  Imagination is defined as, the act of forming or ability to form mental images of something that is not real or present. That definition and the line within the song interest me.

How does one allow themselves to be carried away by things that are not real or present?  I think a great deal of thoughtlessness has to go towards making such a decision.  One must be truly invested in what he or she wants, to the degree that the desire to accept imagination as truth  is greater than the decision to embrace reality. Conformity and compromise occur at such a level that self control and/or rational thought is abandoned.  The wake up or the reality check comes when there is an expected or desired returned which, to no avail, can be made.  Hope and anticipation are diminished, leaving the expectant in a state of discomfort and temporary helplessness, until the time disappointment fades away.  The imagination can not compare to reality.  Some may give imagination more credit than it is due.  Life lessons will come from what one considers a lost, once reality and truth are embraced and reflection and introspection begin to have their way. Imagination has its place in child's play but not in adult decision making. Imagination is not a good manager of a life with purpose.  It can blur lines, distort truth, be misleading and will not lend a roadmap for recovery. Do not let it run away with you.
