Hurdle power...
Listen, I recently completed and published a book , but it took me, what feels like, forever! Let me paint a picture of the process - I become aware of the fact that I was supposed to write a book, and the idea excited me, and I decided, I am going to do it! I started out, running. Writing a book is a hurdle. Getting over that hurdle, signifies that I have completed it. In order for me to meet it and cross over it, I have to run a certain pace, be focused and be ready to jump. This distance between coming out of the blocks and jumping over the first hurdle may not seem like much, but seeing it and actually getting to it, are two different things and will take effort.
Did I tell you I started running? Well, I ran slowly, by choice it seems. I stopped, I looked around me to see what was going on, I took phone calls, I went to the store, I looked out of the window, I daydreamed, I answered text, I surfed social media, I ate ice-cream, I went everywhere I wanted to go and...fell asleep at the computer, so many nights. When I looked up, I had accomplished nothing. Time wasted - I was succeeding in this.
It wasn't enough to know that I had to write, I needed to become intentional about writing. It isn't enough to talk about, "I am writing a book," and there be no words on the page and my efforts, attention and energy are being directed towards everything else. It will not be enough just sitting in another writer's workshop, not applying what I learned, reading books by those who inspire me, meeting other authors, seeing books that, I felt, I could have written and NOT be WRITING. It isn't beneficial to spend money on items that do not really matter over and over and over again, when there are serious fees that need to be paid to get the book published and printed. It is important to count the cost and act accordingly. Publishing and printing books ain't free. Wasted resources - I was succeeding in this.
What's important? It is time for us to get over the hurdles, not be intimidated by them, or continuously thinking/feeling that we can not do what we are supposed to be doing, which is writing, building, establishing, connecting, interacting with our God given visions. The world needs you to run and jump. Be unafraid and have faith enough to believe that YOU CAN WRITE THE BOOK, YOU CAN START THE BUSINESS, YOU CAN BE WHAT YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND CALLED TO DO.
I feel that we continue to allow the distance of the goals/hurdles to prevent us from running towards accomplishing or jumping over them - I did it. Let's stop doing this. I wasted SO much time doing everything else, but I am going to tell you, that I jumped a hurdle and yes, I celebrated that, but there are other goals/hurdles that I must get over and I am going to do it, and I bless God for being a redeemer of the time!
I looked back at some of the blogs, vlogs and posts that I made via social media over the years. God was not only speaking to you through me, but He was speaking to me too! What hurdles are you trying to get over? Get in the blocks and get focused so when the sound goes off, you can run, OR if the sound has already gone forth, pray and ask God to give you the strength to recover and help you reach the goal/hurdle.
I will share this, on Tuesday night, January 16, 2018, when the UPS truck pulled up in front of my home, I was HAPPY, I celebrated being able to open the box and see those books, I rejoiced, prayed and thanked God but I knew that there was MORE for me to do.. Shortly afterwards, I listen to someone talk about accomplishing our goals and God's spirit confirmed, "you have gotten over this hurdle, prepare to run and jump over the next one." I will not, hear me, I will not just stand still between my awareness of what I am supposed to do and my goal - without taking actions.
I want to encourage you, to move. Run and jump. I am an encourager fueled by God. I can do nothing on my own. I bless God for these words and for those that will read them and be motivated and provoked to work on your goals/hurdles NOW.
It's snowing in my area. Many folks are at home, what are you doing? Are you investing in your goals/hurdles? Are you seeking God for strategy and direction and even for the boldness to execute? How much longer will we spend time talking about who doesn't like us and WORKING HARD to prove a point to them with words only and NO ACTION. Let's stop doing this and get a God perspective of our life. Only what we do for Christ is going to last, some of us are stuck in the blocks because we are worrying about what people are saying or will say about us, and the sad thing is we are believing what they say, over what God has called us to do, we become incapacitated and crippled by the words of man instead of allowing the Word of God to build us up and fuel us. Let's not do this.
I encourage you to move. I encourage you to act on your goals/hurdles. I encourage you to not look to the left nor the right, but to the hills from where your help comes from. It is time for us to stop competing fashionably with others and FAITHFULLY stand up in the garments that God has prepared for your life. They are not man made but of incorruptible materials! I don't know who that is for. But there is it is. What are you doing? Get ready, focused and go RUN & JUMP. Don't stop. Stay focused. Stay centered. Stay connected to God.
