Now I lay me down to sleep
My eyes were nearly closed and demanding sleep, but my soul yearned for the Word. You “open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law, (Psalm 119:18). My heart fluttered as I opened the bible, and my spirit rejoiced like a happy child. My heart fastened and absorbed each word that my eyes beheld. Life was transferred like air to a balloon. My heart, mind, and soul captured the sincerity and truth of the word and my life was calmed.
Although the events of the day tried to consume me, your word ushered all of my tiredness, concern, and frustration away, as far as the east is from the west.
Powerful words to read and hear, they never fail to remind me that God is near. My life is satisfied with the richness of His word, I turned on my pillow and dreamed of the Word, undisturbed, and internally observed.
Dear God,
There are moments when we slip, when our bodies yearn for rest, and we give in. Help us to be mindful of the necessity of spending time in your word. I thank you that “Every word of God is tried and purified; He is a shield to those who trust and take refuge in Him” (Proverbs 30:5). May we meditate on Your precepts and have respect to Your ways [the paths of life marked out by Your law] (Psalm 119:12) I pray now, that we will be mindful to take refuge in you and trust you throughout our day, this includes seeking you for direction, spending time in prayer, fasting, listening to you, praising and worshipping you. Amen
