Seek, and you shall find
Have you ever instructed your child to go and locate something, only to hear them respond, “Where is it mommy?” It’s not so much that you don’t know where it is, but that you are trying to help them grow and seek after what you want them to find. Do you think it’s beneficial to the child when we, as parents, always provide the answer to our children, instead of making them responsible for fulfilling the task that we instructed them to complete?
In Matthew 7:7, the word of God states “seek, and you shall find.” This is what God would desire of us. That instead of expecting things to just appear, we should seek after it. Seek means to make a search or investigation. What happened to the joy of seeking? Do you remember as a child playing hide and seek? It was so fun! No matter how many places you looked, you did not stop until you found the one that was hiding. There was something fulfilling being the one to find the hider, do you agree. I remember oftentimes playing this game all day and evening. I remember enjoying seeing others look, no matter how frantically we search; there was much laughter and pleasure. Have you ever thought about the one hiding? They probably felt priceless because they believed that they were hiding in the best hideaway ever. I dare say they wanted to be found, they wanted to see just how long it would take you to find them, and when you did, they would say something like, “Wow! You are good, you found me!” The seeker felt great! We probably didn’t know it then, but the hider’s response was much like praise! So remember there was a time when seeking was fun. I am excited just thinking about it!!
Likewise, there are some things that God would desire us to seek after. God desires us to seek His face, (Psalm 27:8), His Kingdom and His Righteousness, (Matthew 6:33), the things which are above, (Colossians 3:1-4), and His strength (Psalm 105:3-4) just to name a few.
Did you notice that I didn’t include the context for the scriptures above? There is a reason, because I want you to seek them out for yourself. Search because you love God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Go find this scripture in the word, and don’t ask me, lol (requested in love).
There are benefits to seeking God, I would tell you but that would take away the fun of seeking. However, I will leave you with these two scriptures, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, (Hebrews 11:6) and Proverbs 25:2, are you a King?
