In Position
Hebrew 13:16
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
Someone needs us. We must be careful to not become so consumed by the race towards the prize that we forget to slow down or sacrifice ‘our time’ to share a kind word, pull someone out of the trenches, add a bit of brightness to someone’s day, or embrace our brother and sister to let them know that they are important? How many times this week has someone been on our minds and we have yet to drop them a note, or call to say hello? It is of necessity that we be concerned about others.
Oftentimes, our agendas become so filled with more of this and more of that, that by the time we sit down, if we sit down, we can’t remember to think of anything other than going to bed or relaxing and preparing for the next day. But what about others? We just never know what a phone call will do until we make the call. We indulge in the word of God but don’t exercise it enough to see the impact of it beyond the walls of our own lives.
We must speak and share what great things we have learned and how our lives have been transformed as a result of being studious in the word. God’s word is true and it is life changing. When we interact with others we are provided an opportunity to demonstrate just how awesome our God is. Living this life is not about having a personal agenda, but living out God’s agenda.
We have to give of ourselves and avoid self-centeredness at all cost. There are numerous opportunities to express God’s love towards others, are we positioning ourselves so that we may fulfill the scripture that instructs us to “love our neighbors as ourselves?” It takes an intentional mindset to complete such a charge. There is so much going on in the world today, but God is still able to do all that He said He would do. Below 2 Timothy 3:1-5 speaks of some mindsets/behaviors that we should be careful to avoid. We must be intentional about not falling into any of these categories:
"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away."
The way to avoid falling into such categories is by moving when God says to move and do all that He instructs us to do, when He instructs us to do it. We must crucify our flesh daily and do as stated in 1 Corinthians 9:27 ”But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
Someone needs us today. If we are exactly where God wants us to be, at the time He wants us to be there, we shall be in position to meet the need that they have.
