Just Birds

After assisting a customer at work one day, I turned my attention to the outdoors, the rain was dropping gracefully and the cold adorned the window with frosty curtains.
Taking in this beautiful scene, I happened to glance down at the grass, only to see two cute little birds. I observed as they devoured small white petals from one of many green plants in this particular area.
Genesis 9:3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.
There was something captivating about this scene. The birds were enjoying their treat but were unfailing in watching and listening for anything that disturbed the flow of the sound of nature’s song. Poised and attentive were they, so tuned in that if I knew if I made a light tap on the window, they would take flight leaving that in which they were indulging.
Proverbs 1:17
For in vain is a net spread in the sight of any bird,
I gathered that these birds valued life, didn’t worry and were sharp in their responses to the Giver of life. Out of obedience, they were willing to surrender all because within themselves they knew that God would supply all of their needs according to His riches in glory. No matter how beautiful and fresh the white petals were, they didn’t spend a second more than they were supposed to spend there. They were immediate in their response to fly away when instructed. They did not carry the weight of worrying upon their shoulders rather they exercise faith and trust God with their entire lives. They go, stop, and go when He says. They follow the pattern that is set for their lives.
This was an encouraging and wonderful observation.
Matthew 6 25-34
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Sometimes, we don’t know what we need, but we serve a God who does know. Surrendering all to God may appear hard at first but it really is one of the best decisions we can make in life. Every day that we wake provides another opportunity to give more of ourselves over to him, to yield to His ways. A goal worth striving for is to be able to take flight at our Father’s command.
We too would do well to increase our faith and level of trust in God. Being mindful to watch and listen for anything that tries to destroy or distract us from hearing God’s song in our life is important. At first sight or sound, no matter how close, far, quiet or loud taking flight immediately is a wise decision.
Additional Scriptures:
Proverbs 2:6
For the LORD gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
Luke 12:24
Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!
Prayer
Father God, help us to take flight and soar wherever and whenever you lead us.
